mssharon,
As to point number three, fiction or fib, here is the pearl I love. I read it the paper a long time ago, and I do not know who to credit.
“For it to be good fiction, it need not necessarily have happened, but it must be true.”
My agent always says, “Son, everyone knows you write fiction, but you must write the truth. You can never lie to your readers.”
I do my best to do that.

I’ve heard variations of this expression and it makes a lot of sense to me. I maintain that all fiction has an element of truth in it. It’s a reflection of a writer’s inner world.
